The Mining Board is constituted under Section 10 of the Mines Act, 1923 and Mining Board Rules, 1951 to execute the following functions:
- Mining Board may exercise such of the powers of an Inspector under this Act as it thinks necessary or expedient to exercise for the purpose of deciding or reporting upon any matter referred to it
- Mining Board shall have the powers of the civil court for the purpose of enforcing the attendance of witness and compelling the production of documents and material objects; and every person required by any such Mining Board to furnish information before it shall be deemed to be legally bound to do so with the meaning of section 176 of the Pakistan Penal Code (XLV of 1960)
- Approval of draft rules, regulations and settlement of draft bye-laws made for mining sector and forwarding to the government for final approval
- Proceeding of any case (already initiated in the court under the Mines Act, 1923) referred to the Board by the Government
- Conduct an inquiry of any case as referred by the Government
