Punjab School of Mines, Katas

 

This project is headed by a Director and was completed on June 30, 1992 at a total cost of Rs. 25.130 million. The functions of the School are to impart pre-service and in-service training to different categories of persons who are required to hold supervisory positions in the Mining sector. The School is affiliated with Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE), Lahore for awarding 3 years’ Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) in mine-specific technologies.

The matriculate students with science subjects from all over Pakistan are invited for admission to the diploma classes. The School began with a planned capacity for 20 students of Mine Supervisory course 10 each for Mine Mechanical and Mine Electrical technology. The first batch consisting of 20 students was inducted in March, 1987 and by graduating 3 years diploma course was available to mineral sector in March, 1990. The scope was enhanced to 40 seats in 1994. A new Technology of Land & Mine Surveying was introduced in 2002 with 22 students.

The 31st batch was admitted in August, 2016 with 98 students which had been got registered with PBTE. Till now, 888 students have been qualified and are serving in different organizations.

    Distinction

    The Punjab School of Mines, Katas has a distinction that it is the only institution of its kind in Pakistan which provides three year vocational training in following mine-specific technologies:

    • Mining Technology
    • Mechanical Technology with Specialization in Mining
    • Electrical Technology with Specialization in Mining
    • Land & Mine Surveying Technology
